If you read my last skincare post, you will know that my skin is the absolute bane of my life! Sometimes I think that I am finally getting somewhere with my routine and then I wake up the next morning with a major outbreak – not cool!  So, I am always on the hunt for products that could help my nightmare skin and when I unwrapped the Neutrogena Light Therapy Mask for Christmas, I was so excited to start using it! Now that a month has passed, I thought I would let you know how I have got on and whether I can see a difference.

If you’re unfamiliar with how the mask works, it uses both blue and red LED light (without any UV radiation) to target acne-causing bacteria and reduce inflammation. You wear the mask for 10 minutes, which doesn’t add too much time to your skincare routine but you must remember to wear it every day otherwise you won’t see the full results!

My first impression of the mask is a good one! It is incredibly easy to use and switches off after 10 minutes so you don’t have to time yourself - you can sit back and relax. I haven’t experienced any type of pain, redness or tingling, which is what I was initially worried about (even though light therapy is completely painless). My skin is pretty sensitive when it comes to trying out new products but this has been a dream – hurray!  One thing that made me chuckle was that it did take me a while to get used to the room being green once I finished my session!  Your eyes take a little while to adjust to the ‘normal’ light, but it is rather amusing as you feel like you’re something out of Shrek!

One downside is, for the mask to work you have a plug-in activator, which only allows for 30 sessions, you then have to repurchase the pack.  This could start to get pricey, but if you compare that to the cost of other skincare products and facials then I suppose it isn’t too bad after all.  But now, the one thing you want to know, does it work?  Even though I do love using the mask, I can’t say I have noticed a huge difference in my skin and actually, I have still had some major breakouts! I plan to carry on using it to then hopefully see a change as Neutrogena do recommend three months for a transformation, so I will be sure to update you further once complete!

If you’re on the hunt for a new acne product then I would definitely recommend trying this out as everyone has different skin and it may work for you! I hope this one-month review has helped, let me know if you’ve used this mask before or you’re thinking about purchasing. Also, if you have any further questions then please don’t hesitate to pop me a message or comment below.

  1. Oooooh thanks for the review Liv! I struggle so much with hormonal acne (and generally very difficult-sensitive skin) and I've had my eye on this mask for a while now, but I've always held back on making the purchase. So I'd be really interested in finding out how you're getting on after 3 months - whether you feel it's made a significant differnence to your skin. I look forward to any future updates! xxx

    1. You're more than welcome, my love! Oh I really feel you, it's such a pain and it always starts to get you down! I'm really struggling with blackheads and spots on my jawline and chin - not fun. I just hope the more I carry on with this mask, the better it'll get but I will 100% let you know how it's going! xxx

  2. I've seen this product here and there for a while now - and it's always intrigued me. I'm such a skincare novice so I wasn't really sure what it was about, but I'm always on the lookout for new products to try so I rely on reviews like this! This was really helpful, and I'd definitely love to know what it's like after 3 months!

    1. I would like to think I am a total skincare novice but, I am obsessed with trying products out as I still haven't found the perfect 'spot free' routine yet! But, I am so glad this review has helped and of course, I will definitely let you know! Fingers crossed it works its magic.

  3. Have you ever tried rubbing freshly squeezed lemon juice into your skin and leaving it overnight? This works wonders for acne! I have a blog about this next week! Xx
